A new tea benefit

Shape,  July, 2004

Black, green and oolong teas (but not herbal varieties) boost insulin's effectiveness, helping to prevent diabetes, a study at the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center in Maryland found. However, adding cow's milk, soy milk or nondairy creamers to these teas blunts the effect. Lemon, luckily, does not.--C.P.
