Styles that keep your skin safe

Although originally developed for sun-sensitive individuals, UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) clothing is an excellent second line of defense (in addition to sunscreen) for everyone. Research at the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta suggests that cotton T-shirts and polo shirts may not adequately protect against solar ultraviolet (UV) radiation and skin cancer; the American Cancer Society (ACS) notes that a white T-shirt has an SPF of only 5.

If you want to add some sun-savvy style to your wardrobe this summer, the ACS advises looking for a minimum UPF of 15. For very good protection, choose UPF 25-39, and don UPF 40-50 for the most complete protection. These six new pieces offer cute and comfortable coverage.
