Topic: RSS FeedMy curly hair is now perfectly straight! - Shape Tested
Shape, Sept, 2002 by Violet Gaynor
I tried thermal reconditioning with Taka at the Gil Ferrer salon in New York City and learned some things that I never knew about the process:
* If hair has already been excessively damaged from coloring/bleaching you may be turned away; the treatment can cause further damage.
* The stylist may have to cut off more than you want. I agreed to lose several inches after learning that my split ends would soon look too obvious.
* You have to wait at least two weeks after the treatment before having hair colored or highlighted. Otherwise, further damage can be done.
* Hair can't be pulled back or tucked behind your ears for at least two weeks. It can alter the straightening process.
Despite all the restrictions, the end result was truly incredible. My hair felt exceptionally soft and had a mirror like shine (thanks to essential oils and aloe that Taka mixed with the straightening solution). I'd do it all over again.
