'Minor' STD not just a nuisance

Shape,  Sept, 2004  by Sharon Cohen

A sexually transmitted infection that's usually considered merely irritating is more dangerous than generally thought. Trichomoniasis, or "trich," may be associated with infertility, premature labor, cervical cancer and even HIV transmission, the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology reports.

It's the second most common STD after genital warts (HPV); symptoms include itching, burning and an unpleasant-smelling vaginal discharge. If you're given medication for trich, be sure your partner is also treated; men rarely have symptoms.--M.E.S.
