Diet pill alert!

Shape, Sept, 2006

You know to skip weight-loss supplements with ephedra, but a new report from Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston warns that "ephedra-free" doesn't mean safe. Researchers say that pills containing bitter orange, an ephedralike stimulant, can cause angina (serious chest pain) in otherwise healthy people.

"These pills raise your blood pressure and heart rate," says study author Christopher Gange, M.D. "And some diet pills don't list their harmful ingredients."--S.R.
