Get the Right Cut for you: Let your individuality shine through with a personalized hairstyle - Look Great

Shape, Feb, 2002 by Robin Tolkan

We've all had bad hair days -- thanks to a desire to have the cut du jour or a stylist who tried out his shears on us a little too eagerly. Better to listen to your own sense of inner style, says hairstylist Billy Yamaguchi of Yamaguchi Salon & Coastal Day Spa (800-572-5661) in Los Angeles. To figure out your own hair needs, follow these guidelines from Yamaguchi (what he calls feng shui for the hair, since certain color groupings represent personality in this ancient Asian art).

* Like purples and reds? You're passionate and fiery and need a short, funky textured look. * Do earthy tones appeal to you? You're a nurturing type who needs a short, simple cut or long hair with layers just around the face. * Are black and navy your wardrobe staples? The modern bob will appeal to your elegant, sophisticated (and slightly sassy) side.
