Picture a healthier life, then live it - Your Life

Shape,  April, 2003  by Amanda Vogel

The fact that your subconscious mind has trouble distinguishing between what's real and what's imagined can help you achieve your fitness goals. In fact, a mental rehearsal can help you actually live a healthier life, says Vancouver, Canada-based Deborah Low, author of The Quest for Peace, Love and a 24" Waist (Bonneville/Cedar Fort, 2002), a book that examines the role of body image and spirituality in weight loss.

"We can improve our physical world through practice living in our mental world," she says. Spend just five minutes every morning visualizing how you want your day to unfold: Picture yourself choosing a healthful entree in the lunch line, lacing up your shoes to go for a run or letting off steam in your favorite kickboxing class.
