Fitness update can you really be fat but fit? - Think Healthy

Shape,  April, 2003  by Kathleen Doheny

If you're fit and somewhat overweight, some of your health risks are reduced, but you're still not as well off as people who are fit and have a healthy body mass index (BMI). That was the conclusion of a study that tracked 5,300 men and women for 26 years. People who were unfit and fat had the greatest risk of dying, and while being fit did increase overweight people's lifespan, it didn't eliminate all the harmful effects of excess weight on their longevity.

Remember--your goal is to stay healthy longer, not just to live longer.
