Go climb a tree - GetFit News

Shape,  April, 2004  by Vanessa Selene Williams

Looking for a fun, new way to exercise? Summon up your inner tomboy and go climb a tree. "Tree climbing falls into the category of adventure workouts," says Cedric X. Bryant, Ph.D., FACSM, chief exercise physiologist for the American Council on Exercise. "Its appeal stems from the fact that it involves elements from the natural environment, and it can be more mentally stimulating than traditional workouts."

Safer than your childhood pastime, the adult version of tree climbing involves ropes and harnesses, keeping you secure while boosting strength, balance and flexibility, says Bryant. Want to learn more? Check out treeclimbing.com.
