Staying energized with … Alexie Gilmore

Shape, May, 2008 by Claire Connors

There's nothing routine about active actress Alexie Gilmore. "I have to find exercise classes that challenge me or I get bored," says the star of the Fox series New Amsterdam. This native New Yorker shares her tricks for keeping things fresh.

1 CONNECT WITH YOUR INNER CHILD "As a kid, I loved the trampoline. So when I saw that my gym offers urban rebounding classes, I thought it would be as easy as jumping around when I was 10. Wrong! It's a great cardio workout and stress buster!"

2 LEARN TO COOK "I don't do diets, ever. I believe in moderation and unprocessed foods, even if it's a treat like a cheese omelette. I cook my own dinners and I make my own pre-workout snacks. A hard-boiled egg or a little pasta gives me plenty of energy."

3 STAY FIT ON THE ROAD "When I'm traveling, I make sure I pack my jump rope. It gives me an intense cardio workout I can do anywhere, anytime. I just learned advanced moves that increase the benefits, like the crisscross. When I get it right, I feel just like Rocky!"
