A cure for rosacea?

Shape, May, 2008

Relief may be on the way for the 14 million Americans who suffer from rosacea. A new study identified B. oleronius bacteria as the likely cause. The study also showed that antibiotics (such as tetracycline and minocycline) destroy this type of bacteria. "This is a major breakthrough, since we didn't understand how rosacea would respond to oral antibiotics," says Frank Powell, M.D., a consulting dermatologist at the Mater Misericordiae Hospital in Ireland and co-author of the study.

While waiting for the medicine to work, mask redness with Clinique's new Redness Solutions Daily Relief Cream ($40; clinique.com), which has a camouflaging green tint.
