Questions about health insurance? - National MS Society News - Brief Article

Inside MS, Spring, 2002

It's no secret that a person with MS might face the challenge of negotiating a complex health-care system--not to mention the task of securing adequate, affordable health insurance coverage in the first place.

Some help is on the way. The Health Insurance Resource Manual, developed by Stephen Cooper, coordinator of Consumer Health Insurance Information, and Dorothy Northrop, director of Clinical Programs at the Society, is now available as a resource for Society staff in every chapter office.

Contact your chapter if you have questions about any of the following:

* types of health insurance coverage available

* the advantages and disadvantages of each

* health insurance resources

* state and federal legislation that affects health insurance

* officials to contact when insurance questions arise

* rights and processes for appealing a decision, whether in the work place or with an insurance carrier.

Dial 1-800-FIGHT-MS (1-800-344-4867), Option #1, to be connected to your chapter.
