Nutrition Health Review, Summer, 2002

OKINAWA--The percentage of centenarians in Okinawa, near Japan, is the highest in the world, according to the September 2001 University of California, Berkeley Wellness Letter.

Heart disease, breast cancer, and prostate cancer rates are low, and obesity is rare. Grains, vegetables, and fruits constitute 72 percent of the diet. The average Okinawan eats seven servings of vegetables and grains each day.
