North Korea has launched a campaign warning citizens of the dangers of long hair

Nutrition Health Review, Summer, 2004

NORTH KOREA HAS LAUNCHED A CAMPAIGN warning citizens of the dangers of long hair, entitled "Let us trim out hair in accordance with Socialist lifestyle."

The campaign, airing on Pyongyang television, shows a few state-approved hairstyles, such as the flat-top crew cut, the middle hairstyle, the low hairstyle, and the high hairstyle, all of which are between 1 and 5 centimeters in length.

The programs also stress the "negative effects" of long hair on "human intelligence development" and claim that those with long hair consume more nutrition and may rob the brain of energy.
