Microsoft Ramps Up for Fall XP Release - Microsoft Corp. gets ready to launch Windows XP - Brief Article

Brandweek, May 14, 2001

REDMOND, WASH.--Microsoft last week announced that the buildup for the Oct.25 release of its Windows XP will be twice as large as the $200 million it put behind Windows 95 in 1995. Greg Sullivan, lead product manager on Windows XP, said the release will possibly be the most significant Windows product in the company's history Sullivan also didn't rule out buying the rights to Jimi Hendrix's "Are You Experienced?" for the launch (XP stands for "experience.") The first XP release, Office XP, will launch this month, backed by a print campaign via McCann-Erickson, San Francisco.

McCann also handles the $500 million launch of Microsoft's Xbox, slated for a fall release.
