Doral Revives Collector Cards with Purchase - RJ Reynolds - Brief Article

Brandweek, Jan 15, 2001

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.--RJ. Reynolds acts on customer surveys that found nearly half of Doral smokers were collectors by bringing back cigarette cards. First introduced during the 1880s for stiffening soft cigarette packs, the cards emerged as a way for manufacturers to compete and became popular collectibles until raw material conservation phased them out during World War II.

Starting this month, Doral will provide added value with the Celebrate America Collector Cards series featuring well-know landmarks of the 50 states. The cards will be attached to the outside of Doral packs and hit store shelves this year in two sets of 25. POP supports and print runs in Parade and cottectible magazines through March. Future series will feature antique cars, lighthouses and steam locomotives. Coyne Beahm, Greensboro, N.C., is agency for Doral.
