Continental Gift-Card Program Ready to Take Off

Brandweek, Oct 16, 2000

HOUSTON--Continental Airlines next month starts selling gift cards available in denominations from $25 to $1,000. Awareness for the white plastic cards with the carrier's logo will be built through mentions in OnePass frequent flyer club statements, in-flight magazine and airport POP. Cards will be available at Continental ticket offices.

The airline did not have a gift certificate program and opted for the easy to carry cards which are similar to those issued by Blockbuster and Home Depot. Besides marketing the cards to the public as a gift for holidays or special occasions Continental is positioning the product as an incentive to motivate employees or attract customers.
