A Very Brady Kitchen

Brandweek, Feb 14, 2000 by Becky Ebenkamp

In the meantime, a 5-year-old in Wales has beaten them to the punch. According to a hospital pediatrician, the little girl's skin turned yellow as a result of her drinking large quantities of Sunny Delight. By consuming more than a quart and a half of the beverage per day, she took in excessive amounts of beta carotene, which is used in the drink as a coloring agent and vitamin supplement.

The nutrient can give birds a sunnier outer look too: Poultry producer Perdue Farms turns out those yellow-fleshed chickens by feeding them carotene-carrying marigolds.
