Call-Net Enterprises Inc. has announced that Phil Bates, president of Call-Net Technology Services, has decided to leave the company effective August 20, 1999.
"During his time here, Phil has been a key and valuable member of the executive team," said Juri Koor, Chairman, President and CEO. "In particular, he has been the driving force in developing and guiding our entry into the competitive local service market. His contribution was critical in helping our company access this important segment of the Canadian telecommunications market."
Mr. Bates first joined Call-Net in 1990 as vice president, network services. He became president and CEO of Call-Net Local Services in 1996, and president of Sprint Canada in 1997. In 1999, he became president of Call-Net Technology Services.

"I re-joined Call-Net in 1996 to direct Call-Net's entry into the competitive local service market," said Phil Bates. "With our successful launches in Calgary and Vancouver this year, and our national roll-out well underway, I have completed what I set out to do." On looking forward, Mr. Bates said, "After much consideration over many months, I decided I wanted to spend more time with my family. I will be taking some time off to consider my opportunities and next steps."
Call-Net Enterprises Inc. is a rapidly growing publicly-owned Canadian telecommunications company offering local and long distance voice, data and online services nationwide principally through its Canadian marketing arm, Sprint Canada Inc. The Company also owns and operates an extensive North American network and has operations in the United States and the United Kingdom.
The Common Shares and Class B Non-Voting shares of Call-Net Enterprises Inc. trade on the Toronto Stock Exchange and Montreal Exchange under the symbols CN and CN.B respectively. The Class B Non-Voting shares also trade on the NASDAQ stock market under the symbol CNEBF.
