Continuing its commitment to providing industry-leading wireless solutions, Cabletron Systems (NYSE:CS) has announced a new RoamAbout Building-to-Building Wireless Bridge. This new solution enables fast, reliable wireless connectivity between Local Area Networks (LANs) while providing a lower cost, more affordable alternative to T1 leased lines.

"This product is just the first of several new product introductions and enhanced features that Cabletron will be offering in the near future for the wireless market," said Gary McCoy, Cabletron's Director of Wireless Product Development. "We plan to aggressively extend our RoamAbout product family and expand our commitment to bring wireless LAN solutions to a wider customer base."

The aggressively priced Building-to-Building Bridge, an IEEE/802.11 industry standard product, eliminates the time and disruption of installing "wired" connections between buildings, and provides connectivity to buildings up to 6 miles apart at 2 Megabits per second (Mbps), or up to 8 miles apart at 1 Mbps.

In addition, the product offers SNMP and RMON functionality, as well as a future upgrade to the high-rate 11 Mbps standards-based product.
