Nortel Networks' flexible approach is designed to meet the explosive demand for voice and Internet services such as voice over IP, multimedia applications, unified messaging and virtual private networks.

Internet Telephony Solutions Nortel Networks provides emerging service providers and established carriers a comprehensive Internet Telephony portfolio. Nortel Networks was first to market in February 1999 with its Internet Telephony solution for the transformation of existing networks. Major trials are under way or planned with several major Nortel Networks customers including SBC Communications, France Telecom, AT&T, Williams Communications, Prism, Intrigna, Telstra and Focal Communications. Nortel Networks Internet Telephony solutions also meet service providers' real world requirements by building new unified, multi- service next-generation packet networks that support the deployment of new IP services. It also supports the transformation of current generation wireless switches to enable wireless and wireline convergence.

Nortel Networks Internet Telephony supports both the new IP based services and the thousands of existing telephony features such as three-way calling and caller ID on a single multi-service packet network, avoiding the requirement for expensive overlay networks. Furthermore, it transforms existing circuit switches from other vendors onto the same packet network.

Internet Telephony over Cable Arris Interactive, a Nortel Networks/ANTEC venture is seizing the cable telephony market opportunity. Arris Interactive's Cornerstone Data product line also gives Nortel Networks leadership in IP- based cable modems.
