Motorola Introduces Oncore Timing2000, Active GPS Timing Antenna; Latest Oncore Family GPS Offering Designed for Improved Performance in Wireless Voice and Data Applications - Product Announcement

Cambridge Telcom Report, Dec 13, 1999

Motorola has announced the new high-performance Oncore Timing2000 Active Global Positioning System (GPS) Timing Antenna. This microstrip patch antenna, with its newly designed conical dome shape, offers performance improvements to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and systems integrators, specifically for wireless voice and data applications in the timing market. Signal gain, noise figure, and exceptional out-of-band rejection performance assure these customers best quality functionality over available cable length and a wide range of ambient temperatures.

Unlike past flat-shaped antennas that are more affected by extreme weather conditions, the new dome shape of the Oncore Timing2000 antenna prevents the collection of "hard weather" like snow and ice from blocking antenna signals. The Oncore Timing2000 maximizes performance of Motorola's successful line of Oncore GPS receivers, and it is also compatible with other manufacturers' GPS receivers.

"We designed the Oncore Timing2000 antenna with the intricacies of the timing market in mind," said Paul Dowell, GPS Products Manager at Motorola. "It's built to offer the design flexibility, reliability in variable environments, and integration simplicity that our GPS customers have come to expect from us."

Reflecting Motorola's commitment to building smart products, in addition to the weather-resistant packaging, the Oncore Timing2000's electrically shielded LNA assembly assures superior performance in a variety of challenging EMI environments. With minimal power requirements, the antenna draws only 26 milliamps at 5-volts, diplexed from the interconnecting coaxial cable.

The antenna's compact size offers maximum implementation flexibility, while its signal gain, maximum noise figure of 2.5 dB and minimal 40 dB out-of-band rejection assure customers top performance over existing cables. Also highlighted are a center post mount; Jack-style N-Connector; and aluminum die cast bottom housing.

Product prototypes of the Oncore Timing2000 GPS Antenna are immediately available for evaluation, while final production antennas will be available in early January 2000.

Motorola's GPS Products business is part of Motorola's Integrated Electronic Systems Sector (IESS), a leading provider of advanced electronic products and systems for customers integrating electronics into their products. IESS designs and manufactures electronic solutions for automotive, communications, imaging, manufacturing systems, computer, consumer and industrial markets. The sector's sales activities cover worldwide markets and corporate headquarters are located in Northbrook, Illinois.

Motorola is a global leader in providing integrated communications and embedded electronic solutions. Sales in 1998 were $29.4 billion.
