Motorola NSS, investing in its vision for the Wireless Internet, will hire engineers to support key programs. Through its strategic alliance with Cisco Systems, Inc., Motorola plans to go beyond traditional cellular and deploy the worlds first all Internet Protocol (IP) based platform for wireless systems.
Motorola NSS will recruit skilled engineers to fill research and development positions in the areas of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA), Global System for Mobile (GSM) Communications, Wireless Local Loop (WLL), Integrated Digital Enhanced Network (iDEN) and IP technologies. Positions will also focus on 2 1/2 and third generation wireless solutions, including General Packet Radio Service (GPRS), Universal Mobile Telecommunications Systems (UMTS) and cdma2000.
Motorola NSS has been working on its IP-based architecture for more than a year and plans to be the first to deploy internet-based wireless networks.
With an IP-based network, a network operator can create and generate new revenue streams with value-added services. When available, network operators will have the ability to offer consumers -wireless subscribers - applications and services that go beyond today's traditional voice communications.
Plans for Motorola NSS's IP-based network will enable a network operator to include data, voice and video services over a single wireless network, giving users instant access to voicemail, e-mail, fax and video conferencing anywhere in the world - all with the convenience of a single device.
Motorola is a global leader in providing integrated communications solutions and embedded electronic solutions. Sales in 1998 were $29.4 billion.
