Nextel Signs Tower Co-Location Agreement With Crown Castle - Nextel Communications' wireless communications services sites, Crown Castle International's communication sites and wireless network services - Company Business and Marketing

Cambridge Telcom Report, Nov 15, 1999

Nextel Communications, Inc. Monday announced that it signed a Master Lease Agreement (MLA) for co-location of sites on Crown Castle International Corporation's domestic communications towers.

This agreement is effective immediately and will be applicable to co- location sites owned or managed by Crown Castle that are leased by Nextel subsidiaries over the next three years.

"This agreement with Crown Castle, along with Nextel's previously announced build to suit commitment with SpectraSite Communications, Inc. for 1,700 sites over the next five years, compliment each other and our current build strategy," said Tim Donahue, Nextel's president and CEO.

The arrangements with Crown Castle are not exclusive and do not preclude Nextel or its subsidiaries from other co-location agreements. Nextel's subsidiaries have no obligation to enter into any specific number of co- location site leases with Crown Castle, and are not subject to any penalties under the MLA. Favorable below market lease rates, however will apply to all leased sites if Nextel and its subsidiaries enter into co-location site lease arrangements for at least 1,264 sites owned or managed by Crown Castle over the next three years.
