Cambridge Telcom Report, Oct 11, 1999
ADC Telecommunications, Inc., (www.adc.com) announced Monday the release of an Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) module for the BroadAccess Multiservice Access Platform. This newly-added feature enables service providers to offer their customers access to a variety of high speed data services, such as internet surfing and remote LAN connectivity in existing BroadAccess installed-base and in new deployments.

"xDSL is a natural addition to the portfolio of services supported by BroadAccess, further expanding the ability to mix and match narrowband, wideband and broadband voice and data service delivery within the same platform" said David Goldschmidt, vice president of marketing for ADC Teledata. "The system's modular design enables the provisioning of scaleable data solutions and the migration from narrowband to broadband services as the demand grows, with low start-up costs and minimal capital risks."
BroadAccess supports full-rate ADSL and will support G.Lite in the upcoming release. The solution contains integrated plain old telephone service (POTS) splitters for separating telephony and data traffic, rendering additional splitter shelves unnecessary. The ADSL adheres to ITU and ETSI standard and is in full compliance with the ADSL forum architectures.
Service providers using digital subscriber line access multiplexers (DSLAMs) located at the central office encounter problems when delivering ADSL-based services to remote locations due to the long copper loop. By adding ADSL capability to the BroadAccess' remote terminal (RT) located in the vicinity of the subscribers, delivery of ADSL based services to such remote locations is now possible.
BroadAccess, deployed in more than 50 countries worldwide, is a world-class, multiservice access platform optimized for SDH/PDH fiber-based networks while supporting any service from POTS to xDSL. The platform interfaces to any type of local exchange through V5.2, V5.1digital protocols or 2W connection and to Internet Service Providers (ISPs) or ATM backbones through E1s, or STM-1 UNI.
