Industry: Email Alert RSS FeedSplitterless Full-Rate ADSL Services Now Available; Orckit's New System Accelerates Deployment of ADSL and Reduces Costs to Operators - Company Business and Marketing
Cambridge Telcom Report, Oct 18, 1999
Orckit Communications Ltd. announced and demonstrated, at Telecom '99 in Geneva, a splitterless full-rate ADSL solution to be integrated into the company's FastInternet System.
This exciting new development converges voice and all the benefits of full G.lite services, with the guarantee of G.DMT scalability and cost savings for operators. Orckit's FastInternet System now supports the same functionality as full-rate ADSL, using dynamic microfilters on the subscriber end instead of conventional splitters. It offers telephone conversation and Internet browsing without compromising on ADSL or PSTN performance.

Previously, ADSL installations required home splitters connected to the customer's PC or alternatively, delivered ADSL G.lite at only up to 1.5Mbps. Orckit's new splitterless full-rate ADSL solution upgrades ADSL systems to full-rate (up to 8Mbps) and eliminates the costly "truck roll" for the telephone operator -- the need to send a qualified technician to install the traditional splitter and ADSL modem.
Ultimately, this ADSL solution accelerates the deployment of ADSL.
Innovative Components
The new system operates utilizing two new innovative components recently introduced by Orckit: the KeyWave Integrated ADSL single chip solution and enhanced dynamic microfilters. The KeyWave chip is integrated in the DSLAM at the CO side and the CPE side. The dynamic microfilters are self-installed on the subscriber premises side.
Commercial Benefits
The home splitterless full-rate ADSL modem increases the upstream data rate from 512Kbps to 768 Kbps and the downstream rates from 1.5Mbps to 8.192Mbps. More symmetrical services (e.g. 768Kbps) can be offered to customers while covering the same distances, and a higher downstream bandwidth allows for value added services such as video.
Orckit's splitterless full-rate ADSL modems and dynamic microfilters self-install, cutting the installation costs of a traditional splitter at the subscriber home.
