Nortel Networks Thursday announced the coming together of its global businesses serving carriers and service providers to deliver enhanced customer value, leadership and economics. The new Service Provider and Carrier Group will further extend Nortel Networks leadership in internet protocol (IP), high-speed access, long distance, optical and wireless networking. The new group will be led by Clarence Chandran, executive vice-president and president, Service Provider and Carrier Group.
"Over the past year we have achieved leadership and momentum in building Internet solutions for our global customers," said John Roth, president and chief executive officer, Nortel Networks. "Now we are bringing our worldwide organizations serving carriers and service providers together to further our customers' competitive and economic advantage."

In combining these groups, Nortel Networks will further enhance its global networking strengths and offerings to redefine the speed, quality, reliability and economics of the Internet. All regions and groups serving carrier and service provider markets will report to Chandran, including Service Provider Solutions for the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East, Wireless and Carrier Solutions, and Carrier Packet Solutions.
Enhancing Customer Value At The Heart Of The Internet Revolution Thursday's announcements reflect Nortel Networks' responsiveness to meeting changing customer and market requirements. "Nortel Networks Service Provider and Carrier Group will provide the scale and leverage our customers need to create the new, high-performance Internet. We have a unique advantage in being able to do that through our leadership in building networks of any type, and around the world," said Clarence Chandran, executive vice-president and president, Service Provider and Carrier Group. "With Thursday's announcement we are creating a unified customer experience that goes beyond products and services. By doing so we will enable our customers to redefine Internet economics and value for both themselves and their customers."
The new group will provide a single point of accountability and contact for carriers and service providers of all kinds. It will deliver seamless access to Nortel Networks' industry leading Unified Networks solutions spanning Optical Internet, Internet Telephony, Wireless Internet, and Internet Services. Nortel Networks will further increase its focus on the specific and evolving needs of customers. This includes providing customers with the critical solutions needed to bridge the worlds of wireline and wireless, circuit and packet through its Succession Solutions capability.
Nortel Networks delivers value to customers around the world through Unified Networks solutions, spanning mission-critical telephony and IP-optimized networks. Customers include public and private enterprises and institutions; Internet service providers; local, long-distance, cellular and PCS communications companies; cable television carriers; and utilities.
