US LEC Corp., a switch-based competitive local exchange carrier, Wednesday announced that it has appointed Robert D. Ingram as Executive Vice President - Engineering and Chief Technical Officer.
Mr. Ingram joins US LEC with almost 30 years of experience in the telecommunications industry. Immediately prior to joining US LEC, Mr. Ingram served in the capacity of Vice President - Planning, Engineering and Construction for Citizens Communications in Dallas, Texas, a telecommunications provider operating approximately one million access lines in 13 states. In this role, Mr. Ingram was responsible for the integration of engineering and construction activities in widely dispersed operating units. He was instrumental in the implementation of Citizens' data services, in addition to planning their network architecture and equipment selection for introducing high-speed digital services, and he has extensive experience with both voice and data networks. Previously, Mr. Ingram spent several years with Rochester Telephone.

Under the direction of our former chief technical officer, David Conner, US LEC built a great technical foundation, developed our network to its current size, and announced plans for some new and exciting services," added Mr. Ganatra. "We are delighted to have Mr. Ingram's expertise to take us to the next level of growth. Mr. Conner has plans to pursue other interests and his support continues to be instrumental in transitioning the engineering functions of US LEC to Mr. Ingram."
US LEC currently provides local, long-distance and enhanced services to customers in selected markets in North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia and Alabama. In addition, US LEC is currently certified to provide telecommunications services in South Carolina, Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania, Maryland, Kentucky, Delaware, Mississippi and New Jersey. US LEC's network is comprised of fourteen Lucent 5ESS AnyMedia digital switches in Charlotte, Raleigh/Durham, Greensboro/Winston Salem, Orlando, Miami, Tampa/St. Petersburg, Jacksonville, Atlanta, Memphis, Nashville, Knoxville, Norfolk/Virginia Beach, Richmond and Birmingham, in addition to its Alcatel MegaHub 600ES switch in Charlotte. The Company primarily serves telecommunications-intensive customers including businesses, universities, financial institutions, hospitals, enhanced service providers, Internet service providers, hotels, and government agencies and had over 338,000 Equivalent Access Lines* in service on the US LEC network as of August 31, 1999.
