World Cable Modem Shipments to Reach 2.2 Million by the End of 1999 - Company Business and Marketing

Cambridge Telcom Report, Sept 20, 1999

Amidst dynamic growth, Motorola remained the global leader in cable modems in the first six months of 1999, according to a new data product released by The Strategis Group. Strategis dataBank: World Two-Way Cable Modem Manufacturers, Operators, and Shipments indicates that Motorola is currently delivering almost one-third of the world's shipments. In addition, there was significant increase in the market shares for vendors that had an early lead in Cable Labs Certification, such as Toshiba and Thomson. In total, more than 1.1 million modems were shipped in the first half of 1999, compared to fewer than one million modems shipped in all of 1998. Overall, The Strategis Group estimates about 22% of two-way cable modem shipments were DOCSIS compliant in the first half of 1999.
