Cambridge Telcom Report, Sept 27, 1999

Audiovox Communications Corporation (ACC), a majority owned subsidiary of Audiovox Corporation, Thursday announced that it will introduce a new line of compact, chic "clamshell" style cellular handsets beginning this month. The new phones will feature large, easy-to-read display panels and full-sized key pads in a small palm-sized design.

The new line will debut with the PCX-3500XL, a handset the company is producing exclusively for PrimeCo. Featuring a titanium-colored front cover and a black back, the PCX-3500XL will support the CDMA 1.9 MHz frequency. The handsets boast a large, 4-line x 14-character display on the upper portion or "lid" of the phone for enhanced viewing options. Weighing in at just 4.4 ounces, the handset offers a variety of easy-to-use features, including vibra-ring option, menu-driven operation, Caller ID, Short Messaging Service, Voice/Text Message Alert and 99 number alphanumeric memory. The PCX 3500XL will also have outstanding battery performance, providing 145 minutes talk time and 50 hours standby time.

Following the debut of the PrimeCo unit, Audiovox will introduce the PCX-3500. Similar in size and shape and offering the same enhanced features as the PrimeCo phone, the sleek, silver colored PCX-3500 will be available to other PCS carriers in December 1999.

For CDMA carriers, Audiovox will offer the CDM-3300, a high-tech, clamshell-style handset that supports the CDMA 800 MHz frequency. Due to ship in October 1999, the CDM-3300 will offer a high-end unit to the Company's strong CDMA line-up.

All three of the company's new clamshell models, along with other Audiovox cellular products, will be showcased at the PCS '99 Show at the Audiovox booth #1926.

"The new clamshell-style phones are an important addition to the Audiovox product line," says Philip Christopher, president and CEO of Audiovox Communications Corp. "We are one of the only cellular manufacturers currently able to provide carriers with entry level and high-end products on the CDMA, PCS, TDMA and analog platforms. All units will have a full line of accessories available including: Standard Lithium Ion Battery, Cigarette Lighter Plug-in Charger, Cigarette Lighter Hands-free w/o Cradle, Desktop Charger, Hands-free Car Kit, Leather Carrying Case, Travel Charger, Belt Clip, Earphone Microphone.
