A First for GSM: Omnipoint Technologies Inc. Introduces Their Developer Partner Program - Company Business and Marketing

Cambridge Telcom Report, Sept 27, 1999

Omnipoint Technologies, Inc., Thursday announced a new Developer Partner Program that provides all the hardware, software and training support to incorporate the power of the Global System for Mobile (GSM) communications into virtually any application or product portfolio. The program is an important advance to put GSM wireless technology into mainstream applications.

"Whether you're working on developing the next killer application or expanding your business worldwide, GSM is the only truly global technology to get you where you want to go," says Jeff Newman, Director of the Wireless Solutions Division for Omnipoint Technologies. "Our new Developer Program puts the power of GSM to work for you providing all the tools, technology, support and training you need to take your business to the next level."

Omnipoint Technologies' Developer Partner Program offers two different ways to incorporate GSM into applications: system-level integration with the Redhawk wireless modem and board-level integration with the Eagle OEM module.

The Redhawk data terminal module is the right choice for developers who want to integrate GSM wireless data without hardware engineering or complicated programming. Developers simply connect the Redhawk module to any PC via a serial interface cable driven by any standard communications package. Redhawk is a great answer when a developer needs to quickly and easily add wireless capability with a stand-alone wireless modem.

To build wireless directly into products, the Eagle OEM module with its accompanying Development System is the right choice. This compact circuit board interfaces easily via a 60-pin sub-miniature connector to create a fully integrated wireless solution and the Eagle Development System contains a complete Intel 8000-level development environment with an expansion bus for enhanced applications development. Eagle has been designed from the ground up to be fully GSM certified thereby eliminating the complex and costly type approval process.

Both programs offer a CD-ROM that includes a comprehensive training program that explains GSM, circuit switched data (CSD), short messaging service (SMS) and other key concepts. The CD-ROM also provides a step-by-step overview of the development process for both external and embedded applications, sample software applets in Visual Basic and ANSI C to reduce development time for often-used features, along with descriptions of all key features of and components on the Eagle Developer System.

The program provides a certification program that has extensive technical support, including a special developers Web site, discussion forums and both e-mail and phone support. Authorized developers automatically receive updates via the Omnipoint web site to insure the Developer always has the latest information.
