Industry: Email Alert RSS FeedParadyne Announces Hotwire DSL System Compliance With ANSI-Approved TR 59 Specification - Company Business and Marketing
Cambridge Telcom Report, Sept 6, 1999
Paradyne, a worldwide leader and pioneer in broadband access products, announced Tuesday that its Hotwire RADSL (Rate Adaptive DSL) product set is compliant with the recently approved TR 59 providing official industry acceptance of the CAP line code technology, which is widely deployed worldwide. Passage of the TR 59 specification will help accelerate deployment of DSL based services for mid-sized and large business users over standard copper telephone lines due to the advantages of spectral compatibility, reducing potential interference to other services and superior performance. In addition, TR 59 advances equipment interoperability between multiple vendors of RADSL equipment.

Service providers such as Rhythms NetConnections Inc., HarvardNet, GuangDong PTA in China, and others around the world use Paradyne's Hotwire RADSL products. Hotwire RADSL is capable of symmetric speeds of 1 Mbps and below, as well as asymmetric speeds of up to 7.1 Mbps downstream and 1.1 Mbps upstream. The Hotwire RADSL line cards are compatible with the Hotwire 8810 and 8610 multiservices DSLAMs (DSL Access Multiplexers) and are part of Paradyne's multiservices strategy, which includes SDSL (symmetric DSL), M/SDSL (multi-rate symmetric DSL) and MVL (Multiple Virtual Lines) solutions.
"ANSI's approval of TR59 is an important step in creating common standards in the DSL industry," said Jim Greenberg, chief network officer for Rhythms. "This is a very robust technology. Paradyne's leadership has helped to make RADSL one of the most widely used DSL solutions in the industry for business services."
RADSL is fully compatible with other technologies in the same telephone company binder cable and shares the same power spectral density mask with ANSI T1.413 Issue 2, Interface Between Networks and Customer Installation - Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) Metallic Interface, commonly referred to as G.DMT.
"Standards are important because they help focus vendor developments of new technologies," said Beth Gage, director of consulting at TeleChoice Inc. "Service providers are much more supportive of deploying standards-based solutions versus proprietary solutions. Both of these factors will help pick up the pace of DSL deployments for higher-end DSL solutions."
"We are pleased to see ANSI's recognition and acceptance of the industry's widely deployed RADSL-based technology," said Armando Geday, president and CEO for GlobeSpan Inc. "GlobeSpan has shipped production volumes of the RADSL chipset for several years, and Paradyne, through its Hotwire RADSL products, is clearly a leader in bringing this high-performance DSL solution to market."
Industry agreement and compliance of RADSL underscores the growth in broadband access lines to larger enterprises and allows these users to obtain cost-effective connections to corporate networks and the Internet at speeds of up to 7.1 Mbps downstream, or about 250 times faster than a 28.8 Kbps dial-up analog modem. Paradyne scientists and engineers made key technical contributions to the T1E1.4 sub-committee of ANSI regarding the TR 59 specification.
The ANSI Technical Report for Single Carrier Rate Adaptive Digital Subscriber Line (RADSL) has been designated as TR 59. Standards Committee T1 Telecommunications is accredited by ANSI and is a sponsored committee of ATIS, the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions. ANSI Accredited Committee T1 is the standards group in the United States responsible for telecommunications standards and serves as an advisory group to the U.S. Department of State with regard to U.S. policy in the international standards organizations.
