Network Telephone Announces Successful VoDSL Trials With Lucent PathStar And Copper Mountain - Company Business and Marketing

Cambridge Telcom Report, April 10, 2000

Network Telephone Corporation, a leading provider of facilities-based broadband telecommunications services, announced Friday that it has successfully completed Voice over Digital Subscriber Line (VoDSL) telephone calls through its Lucent-based PathStar Access Server. The calls were placed using DSL equipment from Copper Mountain Networks (Nasdaq: CMTN), including CopperEdge DSL Concentrators and CopperRocket 408 Integrated Access Devices (IAD). "The voice quality is toll grade," said Arvil Fowler, Vice President and Chief Technical Officer for Network Telephone. "This shows there is a tremendous opportunity for businesses to reap the benefits and cost savings of Voice over DSL, without compromising the quality of their service."

One of Lucent's family of "fast-packet" switches, the revolutionary PathStar Access Server sets the stage for a range of next-generation packet-based services such as VoDSL. "The placing of calls from DSLAM to DSLAM through the PathStar proves that this new technology is ready for deployment throughout our region," said Ray Russenberger, CEO of Network Telephone. "We have been actively installing the PathStar throughout the Southeast, enabling us to provide a full range of high-quality, high-speed voice, data and Internet services, at an attractive price."

"We're delighted with the pace at which Network Telephone is ramping their Voice over DSL network and the success of the trials," said Rick Gilbert, president and CEO of Copper Mountain. "Network Telephone will soon be able to offer businesses, remote offices, and teleworkers a cost-effective alternative for toll-quality, multi-line voice and high-speed broadband services."
