AMD Announces Flash Memory Agreement With Alcatel - Company Business and Marketing

Cambridge Telcom Report, April 10, 2000

AMD Monday announced that it entered into an agreement with Alcatel, a global telecom networking leader, to supply it with approximately $300 million dollars worth of flash memory devices over the next two years.

Under the contract, AMD will provide Alcatel with AMD flash memory units that are intended to support a broad range of Alcatel's product offerings including DSL modems, cellular phones and telecommunications infrastructure.

"AMD's flash technology leadership is one of the key reasons why Alcatel has entered into this agreement," said Dr. Jorg Sellner, corporate vice president of Alcatel's Operations Group. "With telecommunications standards evolving at a rapid pace, Alcatel has a high degree of confidence that AMD's flash memory devices can support its products now and into the future."

"AMD is excited to support the worldwide leader in high speed access ADSL technology which is redefining the way communications is done through the Internet," said Walid Maghribi, group vice president of AMD's Memory Group. "Major flash memory users such as Alcatel are aligning with AMD by entering into contracts to ensure supply for a product that is becoming increasingly scarce due to explosive demand."

AMD is a leader in flash memory products with devices that encompass a broad spectrum of densities and features to support a wide range of markets. AMD has many innovative products such as the award winning Simultaneous Read Write (SRW) product family, Super Low Voltage 1.8V flash memory devices, and Burst and Page mode devices.

AMD developed the robust Known Good Die (KGD) program, and the patented negative gate erase technique, and refined the industry standard Fine pitch Ball Grid Array (FBGA).

All of AMD's flash memory products are guaranteed for a minimum of one million write cycles per sector and 20 years data retention, making them the most reliable non-volatile memory devices offered in the industry.

AMD is a global supplier of integrated circuits for the personal and networked computer and communications markets. AMD produces microprocessors, flash memory devices, and integrated circuits for communications and networking applications. Founded in 1969 and based in Sunnyvale, AMD had revenues of $2.9 billion in 1999. (NYSE:AMD).
