Sonic Telecom, Ltd. and Viatel, Inc. Introduce Trans-Atlantic and Pan-European Switched Virtual Circuit Services - Company Business and Marketing

Cambridge Telcom Report, Feb 28, 2000

Sonic Telecom, Ltd. -- the originator of telecommunications bandwidth-on-demand and billing by-the-byte -- announced Wednesday that it is providing a full range of switched high speed, high bandwidth services on its international asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network.

Among the first to benefit from the new service are Viatel's (NASDAQ: VYTL) carrier, ISP and corporate customers which can now manage their data networks in real time to allocate bandwidth as needed through Sonic Telecom's Web-based broadband management system (BMS).

Viatel, which owns 16% of Sonic Telecom, is now at least a year ahead of competitors like KPNQwest (AEX & NASDAQ: KQIP) in providing flexible, self-provisioned international bandwidth end-to-end. Michael J. Mahoney, Viatel's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer stated: "Sonic Telecom's Internet-based bandwidth management system is just the type of innovative solution customers have wanted. They may now manage their data networks in real time, allocating bandwidth when and where they need it." Mahoney added: "Innovative ideas and solutions often emanate from entrpreneurial companies--which can also bring them to market quickly, that's why we invested in Sonic Telecom early-on, as part of our data strategy."

Marketed under the name Celeritysm, Sonic Telecom's trans-Atlantic and pan-European switched virtual services are billed at only 10 cents (US) per minute per DS-O (Digital Service, level 0). "Our customers now have a real alternative to existing ISDN offerings and traditional private line services. At 10 cents per minute, per DS-O, companies of any size can afford the power of tailored data solutions." Stated Todd Ruelle, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sonic Telecom.
