Lucent Technologies Announces the Lucent Audio Conferencing System For Cost-Smart In-House Audio Conferences - telephone management device - Product Announcement

Cambridge Telcom Report, Feb 28, 2000

Lucent Technologies Tuesday announced the Lucent Audio Conferencing System, a highly scalable on-premise audio conferencing solution that lets businesses conduct reliable, cost-effective, multi-location audio conferences without having to pay teleconference service bureau fees.

The system is compatible with any Touch-Tone telephone and PBX system and gives small or large enterprises the flexibility to conduct reserved or on-demand audio conferences 24 hours a day with or without operator assistance. Available in two models, the Lucent Audio Conferencing System 500 starts at 24 ports and expands up to 576 ports. The Lucent Audio Conferencing System 1100 ranges from 192 to 1,152 ports, supporting up to 1,152 participants.

"The Lucent Audio Conferencing System enables cost-effective meetings at substantial savings over the service bureau alternatives," said Raj Kanaya, general manager, Collaborative Communications for Lucent. "This stellar-quality audio conferencing system can expand with a business' conferencing needs and easily link people with each other."

The system provides tools such as conference management software and the Web-based Internet Meeting Manager that allow users to easily schedule, edit and delete conferences. System users can also activate an interactive phone system called ReServer that offers voice prompts to guide participants through scheduling a conference.

Built on a highly reliable compact PCI (peripheral component interconnect) platform, the audio conferencing system is designed to handle heavy conference traffic. The system combines the power of Unix with advantages like removable media for system backups and hot-swappable components for easy system upgrades and maintenance.

The Lucent Audio Conferencing System is available immediately in the United States and Canada and will be available worldwide later this year. Pricing for the bridge starts at $78,000 for 24 ports.

The audio conferencing system is based on MultiLink's System 700, one of the leading fully featured audio conferencing solutions available today. MultiLink, a subsidiary of PictureTel Corp., designed the Lucent Audio Conferencing System to Lucent's specifications.
