Beijing Telecom Greatwall Mobile Communications Ltd. has used Andrew base station antenna products and services to expand its CDMA mobile communications network in Beijing, China. Andrew supplied PerforMax base station antennas plus HELIAX coaxial cable, connectors, and accessories for all the base stations in the second phase of Beijing Telecom Greatwall's CDMA expansion program.
CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) is an advanced broadband communications technology that is being adopted for digital cellular mobile communications in China. Beijing Telecom Greatwall is the first operator in China to offer CDMA service. The second phase of Beijing Telecom Greatwall's CDMA network expansion program was completed in October 1999. The company currently has CDMA capacity for up to 150,000 mobile users throughout Beijing and offers automatic roaming service in Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Xian.

Commenting on the reasons for selecting Andrew products, Kong Xianghua, director of the Technology Department at Beijing Telecom Greatwall said, "CDMA mobile communication is at its starting point in China and quality of service is crucial in our market. We have high requirements in terms of equipment quality, and post sales support and price performance are important considerations." Beijing Telecom Greatwall assured itself of Andrew quality by participating in successful tests on the Andrew Performax base station antennas to ensure functionality, coverage, and signal strength.
The majority of the equipment for the Beijing Telecom Greatwall contract was provided from Andrew Corporation's Orland Park, Illinois, U.S.A. manufacturing facility. Certain products were also assembled at the corporation's manufacturing plant in Suzhou, China.
James McIlvain, Andrew Corporation's, director of Global OEM and Asia Pacific Systems added, "As the capital of China, Beijing takes the lead in business development and it is this market that all communications companies are striving to capture. We are delighted that Beijing Telecom Greatwall is using Andrew products in its network expansion."
