The RoadShare partnership program will allow developers of Intelligent Transportation Systems and other transportation-related services to design leading edge localized traffic and traveler services, using the U.S. Wireless location network. The U.S. Wireless location network provides real-time estimates of traffic velocity and congestion without the need for inroad sensors, aircraft or video cameras. By monitoring the flow of cellular traffic on roads and highways, the U.S. Wireless network enables a variety of intelligent transportation services including live traffic monitoring, location-enhanced traveler updates and alerts, and statistical and real-time "best route" information.
"The RoadShare partnerships combine the capabilities of U.S. Wireless' mobile information platform with the expertise of leaders within the Intelligent Transportation Systems industry," said Uday Nagendran, Director of Intelligent Transportation Systems at U.S. Wireless. "The compilation of real-time traffic speed and congestion information will enable numerous traffic and traveler information services, as well as future in-vehicle interactive services."
In a previous announcement, U.S. Wireless disclosed that it had received a contract from the Maryland State Highway Administration and the Federal Highway Administration to provide localized traffic information services. The Company will provide the Maryland State Highway Administration with accurate real-time analysis of traffic speed and congestion, which will be used to enhance traffic management and planning in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
U.S. Wireless Corporation's Intelligent Transportation Services are part of a larger platform of mobile information services. The company's award-winning location network provides wireless carriers with information to meet the FCC's mandate for Enhanced 911 caller location. Cellular, PCS, ESMR and Internet service providers will also use the company's information to deliver value-added content, including localized directory assistance, roadside and navigational assistance, personal safety, asset tracking and fleet management. U.S. Wireless plans to build and operate a nationwide service bureau of wireless location networks in 100 markets across the United States, beginning with the Washington, D.C./Baltimore metro area.
Keeping customers safe, informed and on track, U.S. Wireless is powering the next generation of instant wireless information services. Through a national network of geographic location systems, U.S. Wireless will enable a host of value-added services including life-saving 911 caller pinpointing, localized news and traffic updates, enhanced directory assistance, vehicle and asset tracking, and carrier network management services.
