Extreme Networks and Juniper Networks Offer ISPs Seamless End-to-End Solution for Faster Internet Access - Company Business and Marketing

Cambridge Telcom Report, Jan 31, 2000

Extreme Networks, a leading provider of high-performance, multilayer network switching solutions for the Internet, and Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR), a leading provider of next-generation IP infrastructure systems, are working together to provide Internet Service Providers (ISPs) a solution for faster performance and higher network availability.

To help ISPs strengthen their service portfolios and meet customer demands by overcoming infrastructure and performance constraints, the two companies have successfully completed the first phase of interoperability testing between Extreme Networks' Summit(TM) stackable and BlackDiamond modular switching solutions and Juniper Networks M20 and M40 Internet backbone routers. With the successful testing, ISPs are assured that they can obtain a complete wire-speed network infrastructure solution that enables them to offer the best service to their customers.

"The seamless and robust connectivity between Extreme Networks' and Juniper Networks equipment showcases the availability of a best-of-breed integrated solution for ISPs looking to build the next-generation networks to handle Internet traffic," said George Prodan, Extreme Networks' vice president of marketing. "Because Internet services are only as fast and reliable as the network infrastructure they run on, ISPs require the redundancy and stability our products in order to thrive, and this announcement demonstrates our commitment to delivering these organizations a highly reliable and comprehensive solution."

"This cooperation between Extreme Networks and Juniper Networks leverages the mutual strengths of two leading-edge companies," said Joe Furgerson, Juniper Networks vice president of marketing. "Extreme Networks' proven leadership in network switching solutions, combined with Juniper Networks Internet routing expertise, ensures a high-performance, reliable infrastructure for the significant demands placed on ISPs."

Products in the ongoing interoperability test program include Extreme Networks' Summit and BlackDiamond family of switches, and Juniper Networks' M20 and M40 Internet backbone routers. Extreme Networks and Juniper Networks have successfully demonstrated their interoperability as follows:

-- Extreme Networks' and Juniper Networks' OSPF implementation, usingsingle-and-multiple area configurations, as well as link failure and recovery and 802.1Q VLAN tagging.

The two companies will continue to conduct interoperability tests to aid ISPs.
