3Com Delivers New OfficeConnect ADSL Router for High-Speed Broadband Access Over Phone Lines - Product Announcement

Cambridge Telcom Report, June 5, 2000

Small business networking leader 3Com Corporation (Nasdaq: COMS) Wednesday announced the 3Com OfficeConnect 812 ADSL Router for small businesses' local area network (LAN) connections and high-speed Internet access over Asymmetric Digital Subscriber (ADSL) lines. With the ADSL router, small businesses can easily and securely communicate with multiple locations, such as remote offices and telecommuters, and download large files in a fraction of the time it takes using a traditional analog modem. The 3Com OfficeConnect 812 ADSL Router, which supports G.lite and full-rate, is designed to work with leading service providers that offer ADSL service.

"Small businesses look to 3Com first because 3Com delivers radically simple Internet access solutions with rich connectivity. 3Com's OfficeConnect products are easy to install, offer high-performance and are cost-effective, enabling basic business connections and doing business online," said Tom Hayes, director, 3Com's Business Networks Group (BNG). "Many small businesses prefer ADSL technology because of their need to download graphic-intensive files or large documents at high speeds. Using the 3Com OfficeConnect 812 ADSL Router gives these people the speed and reliability they require to effectively do their job."

3Com is the leader in small business networking, according to a recent report by market research firm Cahners In-Stat. In-Stat has named 3Com the networking leader in small business two years in a row. 3Com's OfficeConnect product family is the premier small business networking and Internet access solution family in the industry. The addition of the OfficeConnect 812 ADSL Router fits into 3Com's proven track record of easy-to-use technology solutions for small businesses looking to build basic Internet connections for doing business online.

The OfficeConnect 812 ADSL Router eases set-up and configuration with its Web-based installation wizard. The router connects directly into any Ethernet interface on a PC or connects multiple workstations with an integrated 10BaseT hub. The router includes full support for network address translation and advanced filtering functions to provide the added security required for today's small business LAN. The OfficeConnect 812 ADSL Router supports up to 16 virtual concurrent connections to multiple destinations and includes full routing and bridging capabilities.

The 3Com OfficeConnect DSL product portfolio includes ADSL and SDSL products for single and multiple users, compatible with a wide variety of DSL services from competitive local exchange carriers (CLECs) and incumbent local exchange carriers (ILECs). With the rise of DSL as a legitimate high-speed Internet service, 3Com's full array of OfficeConnect DSL products offers flexibility to small businesses. 3Com has been shipping the OfficeConnect 810 ADSL Router for over a year.

The 3Com OfficeConnect 812 ADSL Router, which is now available, is priced at $599 (U.S. list).
