Nortel Networks Gets High-Speed Data Services With Equant - Company Business and Marketing

Cambridge Telcom Report, March 20, 2000

Nortel Networks has chosen Equant (NYSE: ENT)(PARIS BORSE: EQU) to provide data services, at speeds previously unavailable, to 10 Nortel Networks sites located in the Caribbean and Latin America (CALA) region.

Using Equant's frame relay and ATM services, Nortel Networks will operate core business applications for finance, human resources and enterprise resource planning solutions. Nortel Networks' CALA employees will also use Equant's network for high-speed access to file and print services, e-mail and the company's intranet, which spans 150 countries throughout the world.

"Equant's network gives us the flexibility to manage bandwidth on demand in an important market," said Richard Ricks, chief information officer, Nortel Networks. "As the CALA region expands, it's essential that we provide high-speed data access to our employees so they can proactively manage business needs. Equant's ATM availability and end-to-end network coverage helps us fulfill this need."

Equant's network uses Nortel Network Passport and DPN nodes. In addition to the common switching technology shared by both companies, Equant maintains on-the-ground expertise throughout the region to ensure that Nortel's business critical applications run smoothly.

"Nortel Networks selected our network based on its speed and geographic coverage," said Laurence Huntley, executive vice president of marketing for Equant's Network Services Division. "We are pleased to provide services that will help Nortel Networks meet the growing demand for telecommunications infrastructure."
