Optical Cable Corporation Reports Record February Sales and Earnings - Company Financial Information

Cambridge Telcom Report, March 20, 2000

Optical Cable Corporation (Nasdaq: OCCF) Thursday pre-announced a record net income for February of approximately $0.036 per share versus $0.012 per share in the year ago period, an increase greater than 175%. Net sales set a new record for February at $4.0 million, up 15% versus $3.5 million in the year ago period.

"We continue to see momentum build on order input for February, up 27% versus the year ago period. March has started strong as well with many larger projects coming in to the sales department," stated Robert Kopstein, President and Chief Executive Officer. "The high degree of computer automation in our manufacturing processes will allow us the ability to service customers through any large ramp up in potential business. The computer automated manufacturing equipment gives us the ability to produce a better quality product and deliver much quicker than our competitors. Also, as business accelerates, a larger portion of sales is brought down to the net income line, with reduced manufacturing overhead and less selling, general, and administrative expenses as a percentage of sales."

Optical Cable Corporation manufactures and markets a broad range of fiber optic cables for "high bandwidth" transmission of data, video, and audio communications over moderate distances. Optical Cable Corporation's cables can be used both indoors and outdoors and utilize a tight-buffer coating process that protects the optical fiber. FMI: http://www.occfiber.com.
