ADTRAN's Ultra-flexible Total Access 850 System Provides Interoperable Voice-Over-DSL Solutions - Product Announcement

Cambridge Telcom Report, May 15, 2000

ADTRAN, Inc., (NASDAQ: ADTN), a leading provider of network deployment and access solutions, Monday introduced its Total Access 850 intelligent integrated access system. The new platform offers Incumbent Local Exchange Carriers, Competitive Local Exchange Carriers and Inter-Exchange Carriers interoperability with major voice over DSL gateway and DSLAM vendors. This system provides a modular voice and data network interface design allowing easy migration from T1 services to HDSL2, SDSL, and G.shdsl, and an affordable migration path from TDM to packet services.

"Carriers are dealing with rapid change in their competitive environments including TDM to ATM migration and voice over DSL deployment to meet customer expectations for affordable improved services," said Ron Westfall, senior analyst at Current Analysis. "The introduction of the Total Access 850 platform and its modular support for efficient TDM-to-ATM migration demonstrates that ADTRAN continues to fulfill the strategic access needs of carriers in quickly evolving markets."

"The Total Access 850 system offers a myriad of benefits to carriers who need to migrate networks according to specific customer requirements, all done with little or no service disruption," said Everett Brooks, product line manager, Integrated Access, for the ADTRAN Enterprise Networks Division. "With the Total Access 850, carrier customers can rest assured they can deploy one or more diverse architectures according to their requirements -- with the latest technologies."

The Total Access 850 builds on the success of the Total Access 750 with additional innovative features, such as IP/IPX routing supporting Frame Relay and PPP, FXO and FXS interfaces for analog voice, and DSX-1 for digital voice. It also offers a V.35 interface for connecting with external routers or video-conferencing equipment, a U-BR1TE for BRI extension, an OCU DP for DDS extension, HDSL2 line termination, and ATM support.

The Total Access 850 system is currently shipping at a list price of $1,995 (includes IP/IPX router and voice/video support).
