The network is based on Fixed Wireless Technology and offers considerably faster bandwidths than traditional telecommunications wireline services. The service will initially offer speeds of up to 2 Megabits per second. The two main services being offered by Millicom are Internet Services and Intranet Services (VPN Virtual Private Networks). Both services use the Advanced Digital Wireless Network, a highly secure, high speed data communications network over which customers can send and receive any form of data communication, whether it be voice, data, audio, video or fax. Millicom Argentina'a services offer all the benefits of a leased line, such as permanent connectivity, but its unique pricing structure means that customers pay a low monthly subscription fee and then only pay when data is actually being transferred.
The Millicom Argentina's Intranet Service is aimed at businesses and homeworkers who are looking for a permanent high speed connection to a company Intranet or Wide Area Network. Using Millicom Argentina's Intranet Service, teleworkers and other remote locations can have a permanent connection to the company's Local Area Network ("LAN"). With the remote network constantly connected to the LAN, applications such as video conferencing, collaborative working and document sharing will be made possible.
This is MIC's second operation to launch high speed wireless Internet services and we plan to roll out this concept in other markets shortly.
