Railroad contractors wanted - NRC News - National Railroad Construction conference
Railway Track and Structures, Dec, 2002 by Larry Laurello
You may have recently seen the phrase, "Railroad Contractors Wanted...," on a few of our promotional pieces for the 2003 NRC Conference and Exhibition. We believe it strongly conveys a twofold message. First, The National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association requests the presence of other railroad colleagues to join its members at this important annual conference. Second, if you are a rail contractor, engineer or transportation consultant, this is a must-attend event for you.
Each year, the NRC Conference and Exhibition attracts more than 300 representatives from the rail and transit construction community. In 2003, it takes place January 11-15 at The Westin Mission Hills Resort in Rancho Mirage, Calif. During this timeframe, the attendees will capture key information from visionary experts, visit exhibit booths highlighting the latest technologies and enjoy delicious cuisine, music and conversations at the receptions. While there, plan to participate in the new 5K charity run/walk and our celebrated golf tournament on Southern California's only Gary Player Signature Golf Course. The NRC tries its best not to miss a beat, which is just one more reason why you should be at the conference, too.
Periodically, over the course of three days, exhibitors will be able to show their new products and make their case to attendees touring the Exhibit Hall. On Saturday, January 11, the annual conference begins with its traditional Opening Exhibits Reception. Greet friends that you haven't seen lately while you stop at the different booths.
Any discussion that you didn't complete this night you'll be sure to pick up again at the Sunday Morning Exhibits Breakfast. Grab a hearty meal before you head out to the first day's general session. Later on, we hold an exhibits reception, which is followed the next morning by an exhibits closing breakfast and our popular raffle drawing.
Topics covered will include perspectives on the largest freight rail projects across the United States, the future of federal investment in freight mobility, cutting-edge technologies in railroad construction, passenger rail changes and improvements and rail contractor customers' overviews of current and future infrastructure plans.
New in 2003, the media's most-acclaimed publishers and editors will moderate a few of our speaker panels. A couple of our partner organizations, such as the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association and the Railway Engineering-Maintenance Suppliers Association will be in attendance.
We are pleased to announce that Senator Sam Brownback (R-Kan), a member of the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee, is giving a keynote speech at the conference, as well as commencing the 5K run with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The latest and most-exciting update to our program is that NASA Astronaut Lieutenant Colonel Michael J. Bloomfield will be joining us. He was a member of the STS-110 Atlantis crew, which constructed the first railroad in space.
Following three days of speaker sessions, the registrants will gather together for the Awards Banquet. Here, we will honor the Congressional members present and the winner of the 2002 NRC/RT&S Contractor of the Year Safety Award. The NRC is truly looking forward to this event and hope that you, too, will participate. To register, complete the Attendee Registration Form found within the following pages of RT&S and fax it to the NRC office at 202-638-1045. For more information, visit: www.nrcconference.com
