CSX upgrading exterior of Jacksonville headquarters - Industry Today - Florida - Brief Article

Railway Track and Structures, April, 2003

CSX Corporation and CSX Transportation began an extensive upgrading of their downtown Jacksonville, Fla., headquarters last month.

The building's exterior will be covered with a beige elastometric coating. For the most part, the material will be applied over the blue and green tiles previously in place. Kenneth Smith Architects and Advanced Coating and Caulkings of Jacksonville will perform the work, which should be completed in about a year and cost less than $1 million. The building was originally built in 1960 as headquarters for the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad when it relocated to Jacksonville from Wilmington, N.C. It contains 475,000 square feet of space and is supported by 1,956 concrete piles along 500 feet of riverfront.

CSX Corporation recently relocated its headquarters from Richmond, Va., to Jacksonville. CSX Technology and CSX Intermodal are also headquartered in Jacksonville.

Also, in an effort to respond more quickly to changing market conditions and continued volatility in fuel prices, CSXT is modifying its fuel cost recovery program. After the transition to the new program, the railroad's fuel surcharges will be applied in smaller increments on a more real-time basis, consistent with increases and decreases in fuel prices.

With the change, CSXT will adjust the surcharge up or down 0.4 percent for every dollar increase or decrease in oil price above $23 per barrel, based on the 30-day average price of West Texas Intermediate crude oil.
