Vermeer Manufacturing Co. has introduced the RS8 rock drilling tool for use with Navigator(R) D50X100A, D55X100, D80X100 and D80X120 horizontal directional drills. The tool is a steerable rock drilling head designed to accommodate a drill bit that can penetrate medium to hard rock formations up to and over 15,000 psi. The 57.5-in.long device uses an 8.75-in-diameter Tri Cone Bit, is designed for low drilling fluid usage with a standard drilling fluid pump, and is powered using conventional drill stem. Steering is achieved with a specially-designed outer housing that permits operation with any standard drill.
