The AREMA Web page
Railway Track and Structures, June, 2004 by Bob Nash
AREMA has become a heavy user of technology in order to keep costs to members low and to provide quality of service. One of the key technology investments AREMA has made over the past five years is in the area of computer systems and e-mail capability. This has revolutionized the way we do business at AREMA. It also provides members with a wealth of knowledge and services found on our Web page. If you have not yet checked out our Web page, please do so. The material is always changing, so you must visit the site often if you want to stay abreast of current developments.

The AREMA Web page offers a variety of services to members. One feature gaining popularity is the "RAILOpportunities" section. This is your source for employment opportunities in the railway engineering industry. It is intended for posting opportunities for both employers seeking employees, as well as for prospective employees looking for an employer. The Web page also has a "News" section containing the most-recent press releases concerning AREMA. It also features an Online searchable "Document Library" with many documents and proceedings dating back into the 1930s. While most electronic documents stored are less than six years old, many of the paper-based documents of the past are being entered into the computer for ease of search and reference.

Come and learn more about AREMA's past and the rich heritage of its four predecessor organizations in our "About AREMA" section. Look back in time to 1883, when the Road-masters Association was founded. In fact, all four founding organizations of AREMA can trace their roots back to the late 1800s. You can also learn more about the AREMA staff under this section. Our six staff directors, executive director and CEO and administrative personnel are listed on the Web page, as well as their credentials.
The AREMA Web page also offers a "Calendar" of events that are ongoing throughout the year. The calendar lists the AREMA conferences and seminars, technical committee meetings and when our main publications will be available. The Calendar also lists known dates for events as far as 2006.
Are you looking for AREMA memorabilia? Well, try shopping at our "Online Store." While selection is limited at this time, we are pleased to be able to offer you AREMA polo shirts and chambray shirts, AREMA pins and AREMA travel mugs. You can also sign up for conferences and seminars at the Online store and order your AREMA publication needs.
If you are curious about all of the membership benefits of AREMA, we offer that, too, under our "Membership" section. Here, you can find out about member discounts for AREMA conferences, seminars and publication, as well as what members are entitled to.
The Web page is also a great tool being used by many of our technical committees. You can browse the current assignments and committees' make-up. It also lists the rules governing technical committees and is now being used for electronic balloting, eliminating much of the need for paper ballots. This is saving on postage, paper and administrative time, while speeding up our efficiency and services to members.
If you have not looked at our Web page recently, please do so. You will be pleasantly surprised. You can access our Web page at www.arema.org.
