STB says CN-WC merger is minor transaction - Industry Today - Surface Transportation Board, Canadian National and Wisconsin Central railways - Brief Article

Railway Track and Structures, June, 2001

The Surface Transportation Board has decided to treat the proposed Canadian National-Wisconsin Central merger as a minor transaction for regulatory review purposes. The STB order establishes a schedule anticipating a final agency decision in the merger proceeding by September 7. CN and WC filed a common control application with the STB April 9.

Also, CN has reached a tentative collective agreement with the Canadian Council of Railway Operating Unions. The Council negotiates on behalf of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and the United Transportation Union, which together represent about 4,800 CN employees in Canada. The leadership of each union is recommending ratification of the three-year agreement.
