Twin Cities commuter line wins support - Industry Today - Brief Article

Railway Track and Structures, June, 2001

Business and labor groups from the Northstar Corridor in the Twin Cities area and around Minnesota have signed resolutions of support for the Northstar commuter rail line.

The line, which would run from downtown Minneapolis to the St. Cloud area, would carry approximately 9,300 riders per day, freeing up approximately one-and-one-half lanes of highway during times of peak congestion. The 80-mile Northstar Corridor is expected to begin operation in late 2004 on trackage owned by BNSF, which also operates Metra commuter trains in the Chicago area.
